Master Classer
Master Classer is a professional development initiative offered by AWEX to professional Australian Wool Classers.
Master Classer is an opportunity for professional Wool Classers to Develop a greater depth of knowledge of the customers of the wool classer and the wool pipeline. This course concentrates on developing the Wool Classer’s staff management skills and technical confidence.
The objectives of the Master Classer course are:
- To develop (staff) management/supervision skills and communication techniques,
- To bring Wool Classers closer to the point of sale to get a deeper understanding of the requirements and perspective of each customer of the Wool Classer (producer, warehouse, broker, buyer, and processor),
- To review wool preparation and clip analysis (show floor lots),
- To foster the use of strategic thinking and decision support tools,
- To examine the principles of quality assurance,
- To advocate WoolClip and eBale,
- To build deeper levels of understanding behind the Wool Classer’s Code of Practice, and
- To meet with other Wool Classers
Eligibility
Each course is limited to a maximum of 15 Wool Classers selected from industry nominees and/or wool classers identified by AWEX through its own performance monitoring. Nominated Wool Classers should have the following attributes:
- Must be actively wool classing for the last three year,
- Must class a minimum of 4 clips or 250 bales per annum average,
- Must have ability and desire to further their wool knowledge, and
- Must demonstrate good character, judgement and capacity for leadership.

Course requirements: Participants must pass an open book examination. During the course and following it is expected that the participant and attitude is representative of an industry role model and demonstrate appropriate and commit to ongoing training and performance criteria.
